Adventure Rhode Island fishing charters provides light tackle of fly
fishing guided trips on Block Island Sound and Narragansett Bay. We use
lightweight conventional, spinning, or fly fishing gear as necessary on
our fishing trips. The tackle and techniques we use depend upon the
abilities and desires of our clients and the areas we fish e.g.
sometimes in a given area trolling won’t work, so we drift with soft
plastics, or cast plugs. The Adventure will go wherever is necessary
and use whatever tackle or techniques will work to catch fish for the
clients.
Adventure Charters 2009 fishing season was excellent. We caught a lot
of fish trolling, spin casting, and fly fishing over the course of the
season. We really love taking people out fishing and having a good
time.

Spinning gear is the most versatile
in the number of different baits and retrieval techniques that can be
used to entice a fish to strike. It requires a certain level of ability
to be successful, so we can’t always use it.
Conventional trolling gear is the
easiest to handle, and is used quite often for bass and bluefish
fishing. Our trolling rods are pretty light, especially compared to
what a lot of other people are using.

Adventure Charters also offers Fly
Fishing trips for beginners or experienced anglers. Fly fishing on
saltwater is a bit more difficult than using spinning or trolling gear.
Not everyone has good casting distance with a fly rod; what might be
fine for a trout stream simply doesn’t cut it when fishing from a boat
on saltwater. Granted, the boat can be maneuvered towards the fish, but
you can only get so close without spooking them. The most critical need
is the ability to cast a long way, with reasonable accuracy. To
enhance casting distance, a fast intermediate line will give very good
performance, much more so than a floating line and is also available
with a clear weight-forward tip. It doesn’t hurt to put on a line that
is one weight above that of the rod, e.g. 9w line on a 8w rod. |

For
those who cannot cast long distances, don’t be discouraged, you can also
tease the fish up within casting distance. Using a plug with no hooks
we can bring the fish in close enough that the fly fisherman can cast to
it and pull the plug away so the fly is what the fish sees. This does
require good accuracy and timing on the part of the person with the
plug, but it can provide a lot of good fly rod action. Some fly
fisherman are purists and prefer not to engage in this sort of bait and
switch tactic, wanting to use only the fly rod. There are many times
when keeping a good lookout is important and we’ll see feeding fish on
the surface and move up to put the fly fisherman within casting
distance. Another way to catch fish on the fly is to use fast sink
line and fish structure. It can be very productive, we have caught many
species this way including false albacore, bluefish, and striped
bass.
