Great fly fishing trips for Trophy Trout. Call 508-509-0113 or 401-640-0865

Trophy trout in Rhode Island? You better believe it. The nation’s smallest state has some of the finest – and most overlooked – trout fishing in southern New England. And after over 25 years of fishing these waters, I have extensive knowledge of fly fishing for Rhody’s trophy trout.

Our home base is a short drive to Narragansett Bay, Charlestown Breachway, Ninigret Pond and Watch Hill. You can combine fly fishing for both trophy trout and stripers in one trip. We fish from our drift boat or a 17’ Whaler with casting platform depending on where we fly fish.

We will fly fish the state’s best watershed. The Wood/Pawcatuck river system consistently produces brown and rainbow trout exceeding five pounds. There are also trophy brook trout exceeding three pounds. The slow-moving, tannin-stained, deep-holed rivers are perfect habitat for strong hatches and big holdovers.

Fly fishing or light spinning outfits are provided. We will do a combination of drift boat and wade fishing in the most productive areas of the river.

Rhode Island license and trout stamp are required but not provided. Both are readily available minutes from our home base. Trips are limited to two anglers. Full and half-day trips are offered, including evening and night trips during the famed hex hatch in the summer. Guided trips are offered from mid-April through the end of February.

You are welcome to use your own tackle and equipment if preferred. Tackle is provided, but waders are not. Breathable waders are recommended. Studded boots can be helpful in some water, but not required.

Fly fishing is the preferred method for catching these sometimes spooky trout, although light spin fishing is welcomed. All flies and lures are provided. Catch and release fishing is strongly encouraged. Jack will have a camera available for snapping a shot of that fish of a lifetime!

Full day trips are a combination of drifting and wading. Full days begin eight hours before sunset and end just before dark so that we can catch the evening hatch.

Half-day trips may require a wading-only experience. If you want a half-day trip, we recommend you use the second half of the day as evening hatches on our rivers can be strong and often result in the best part of the fishing day. Half-day trips can begin four hours before sunset.

Evening and night trips are also available during the summer. This is your chance to take advantage of a truly unique fishing experience. These trips can be highly productive, especially when the incredible Hex hatch is on, beginning at 7:00 pm and ending around 11:00 pm. This trip is not recommended for the easily-frustrated fisherman. The fly fishing can be superb, but stealth is required, flashlight use is limited, and getting flies tangled in the trees is common. Please contact us for additional information about night fishing.
